CGPA to Percentage SPPU

Step-by-Step Guide to Convert CGPA to Percentage at SPPU

There is so much confusion among SPPU students on how to obtain CGPA from Grading Points and how to convert the CGPA to Percentage.

The Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) uses Grading Points to calculate and report students’ academic performance.

There are basically 3 steps you need to follow to obtain a percentage using the grade point mentioned in the marks card of SPPU

  1. Convert Grade Points to SGPA
  2. Convert SGPA to CGPA
  3. Convert CGPA to Percentage

In this post, I will explain in detail each of these tasks and also provide you with a calculator that can easily calculate percentage from SGPA

What is CGPA and SGPA?

CGPA is a numerical representation of a student’s overall performance in all the subjects studied during a particular academic period. It is calculated by taking the total grade points earned by a student divided by the total number of credit hours. The CGPA is usually calculated on a scale of 0 to 10, where 10 is the highest and 0 is the lowest.

SGPA, on the other hand, is a numerical representation of a student’s performance in a single semester. It is calculated by taking the total grade points earned by a student in a particular semester divided by the total number of credit hours for that semester. The SGPA is also usually calculated on a scale of 0 to 10.

Both CGPA and SGPA are used to evaluate a student’s academic performance. The CGPA provides a broader picture of a student’s overall performance, while the SGPA provides more detailed information about the student’s performance in each individual semester.

1. How to Calculate SGPA from Grades at SPPU

At SPPU, the calculation of SGPA involves multiplying the grade point earned in each subject by the number of credit hours for that subject and then adding up the results for all the subjects in that semester.

The formula for calculating SGPA at SPPU is:

SGPA = Sum of all Grade Points (GP) / Earned credit

Here in the above marks sheet

First Semester SGPA = (45+30+8+36+32+28+10)/(5+5+2+4+4+4+1) = 189/25 = 7.56

Second Semester SGPA = (36+40+12+0+32+32+9)/(4+5+2+0+4+4+1+0) = 161/20 = 8.05

First Year SGPA = (First Semester SGPA + Second Semester SGPA)/2 = (7.56 + 8.05)/2 = 15.61/2 = 7.805

2. How to Calculate CGPA from SGPA at SPPU

At SPPU, the conversion of SGPA to CGPA involves adding the SGPA of each semester and dividing them by the number of semesters.

The formula for converting SGPA to CGPA at SPPU is:

CGPA = (Semester 1 SGPA + Semester 2 SGPA + Semester 3 SGPA..) / Total number of Semesters

For example, if a student’s SGPA for semester 1 is 7, semester 2 is 8, semester 3 is 8, and semester 4 is 9, then CGPA calculation would be:

CGPA = (7+8+8+9) / 4 = 32 / 4 = 8

3. How to Convert CGPA to Percentage at SPPU

Once you have your CGPA, converting them to a percentage is very easy

Percentage of Marks = CGPA * 8.8
